Inside Line Promotions – GREAT FALLS, Mont. (June 18, 2019) – Cody Masse earned a pair of top-10 results last weekend during NSA Series competition at Electric City Speedway.
“We were pleased with our weekend since we haven’t run that well in Great Falls in the past,” he said. “We were really happy with the speed and the handling of the car. We have some confidence now and we have something to build on for the meat of the season coming up next month.”
The doubleheader weekend for Masse began on Friday with a satisfying run in his heat race.
“We started fifth and finished fourth on a track that was heavy and difficult to pass on,” he said. “I was happy to learn we had the fastest lap in the race, especially since this was the first ‘real’ night on our new motor after the issues we had in Edmonton.”
Masse drew the fifth starting spot for the feature.
“I didn’t have a very good start and fell back to about eighth,” he said. “The car was a bit tight early in the race. It took me too long to figure out how to drive it. But once I did, the car was really good. I got back up to seventh, but I felt my right rear tire going soft with about four laps to go. I kept slowing and was about to pull in when I saw the white flag so I decided to limp it to the checkered and finished ninth.
“The good news was that we had the fastest lap in the feature, just like we did in the heat race. That proves we have the speed now. We just need the execution.”
Saturday night also started out well as Masse picked up the win in his heat race after starting second.
“I got a solid start to take the lead going into turn one,” he said. “I was able to hold off some good cars for the win. I think I finished second in heat races about five times last year and hadn’t won one since 2015 so it was nice to finally win one again.”
Masse drew the fifth starting position for the feature for the second night in a row.
“A couple of cars got by me on the start so I might have to be more aggressive on my future starts,” he said. “I slipped back to seventh and was racing for sixth for a while, but couldn’t make the pass stick. I eventually got caught behind a couple of lapped cars and had a hard time making up ground since the last 21 laps went without a restart. I finished seventh. It was a fun track where you could rip the top with enough grip on the bottom to give you a chance to pass someone.”
The next planned competition for Masse will be this Saturday at Big Sky Speedway near Billings, Mont., during an ASCS Frontier Region race that was postponed from earlier this year.
“Billings is similar to Great Falls,” he said. “It’s a place where we haven’t had a ton of success in the past. We did better in our second visit there last year compared to the first and we’re hoping to continue to build on that along with our momentum from this past weekend.”
